In Israel, the day before Yom
Ha’Atzmaut is one of the most solemn days of the entire
year. Yom Hazikaron L’Challelei Zahal, Remembrance
Day for Fallen IDF Soldiers, is a day that affects every citizen.
The somber music on the radio, the personal stories about young
men killed in defense of Israel, the two-minute siren when the
entire country stands still and the moving ceremony at the Kotel
- all contribute to the unique atmosphere.
To the soldier educated at one of Yeshivot Bnei Akiva’s
18 yeshivot tichoniyot and/or 7 yeshivot hesder, this day has
special significance. In our schools, he has been taught the
Torah’s view on Israel, on mesirat nefesh, and on our
responsibility to our People and our Land. He has learned from
his rabbis that serving in the army and defending his country
are mitzvot of the highest importance.
Throughout the 57 yeshivot and ulpanot of Yeshivot Bnei Akiva,
ceremonies are held to commemorate the YBA students who fell
in battle in Israel’s wars
To remember these brave young men, we have decided on a project
that will honor their memory and at the same time, be practical
and useful for our current YBA students.
We are embarking on a campaign to write a compact Sefer Torah
for each of our seven yeshivot hesder - Yeshivat Hakotel,
Yeshivat Hesder Hagolan, Yeshivat Hesder Maalot, Yeshivat Hesder
Neveh Dekalim, Yeshivat Hesder Or Etzion, Yeshivat Hesder Shadmot
Neriah and Yeshivat Hesder Acco - which will be used by
our young men of whom we are so proud when they are in the IDF.
We need your help. We need your help to memorialize those young
men who have given their lives, and we need your help to supply
our current student/soldiers with a Sefer Torah, which will
give them strength as they go about the business of defending
Israel.
Please join us by participating in this unique project. |
